Maelstrom
A Maelstrom is a celestial event that brings the supernatural to the mortal world.[1]
Summary[edit | edit source]
Circa 1899, the first Maelstrom impacted the world during an eclipse,[2] opening Astral Gates, bringing back dead spirits such as Vindicta and forever transforming Dynamo. 50 years later,[3] in the present day, a second Maelstrom is about to occur.[4]
The Maelstrom is expected to last between 20 minutes and 2 hours,[5] during which mystic energy is at its apex.[6]
The OSIC has warned New York citizens to stay indoors for the duration of the Maelstrom.[7][8]
The third Maelstrom isn't expected to happen for another 50 years,[9][10] but it could happen earlier.[11]
Ritual[edit | edit source]
The ritual is an event that takes place during the second Maelstrom, in which two teams of six (or seven) individuals are fighting to summon a Patron,[4][8] an extraplanar god[12][13][9] who can grant them wishes. The ritual can only be completed once the enemy team's Patron is destroyed.
Fonts of power all over New York City are being tapped as part of the ritual.[14] The New York Oracle is providing live coverage of the ritual.[15]
Trapper is working in the ritual as part of his job for the New York Municipal Coven.[16]
Trivia[edit | edit source]
- The in-game skybox used to have an eclipse over the sun. This was removed with the skybox change in the October 24, 2024 Update.
